TCE Company, Inc :: Duplicators :: CD Duplicators

  CD Duplicators
 Executive Series
 Plextor Duplicators

Top ten things to look for when buying a duplicator:

Format CD or DVD-R or DVD+R

When purchasing a duplicator the main question to ask yourself is whether you will be recording CDs or DVDs. If you will be recording both a DVD duplicator would be the best option seeing as it will record both DVDs and CDs. However if recording only CDs or DVDs then you should choose a CD or DVD duplicator accordingly.

Within a DVD duplicator, there are three variances in the way the DVD is recorded, DVD-R, DVD+R and Dual Layer. The majority of business DVD recorders record in DVD-R, whereas the majority of home recorders use DVD+R. However, the majority of DVD players will play DVD-Rs. Dual Layer DVD players will record in your choice of DVD-R or DVD+R, which takes the confusion out of deciding which one is best for your company.

Speed

Each duplicator has two speeds associated with them, reading and writing.
Reading speed is how many times faster than the actual play time of the CD or DVD the player takes to read the CD or DVD when preparing for duplication. The most common speeds for CDs are 52x and 40x. Common DVD speeds are 16x and 8x.

Writing speed is the time it takes to record the material onto the DVD or CD. It is measured in the amount of times faster than the actual play time. Common writing speeds for CDs are 48x, 40x, and 32x. Common DVD writing speeds are 16x and 8x.

Hard Drive

Duplicators are stand-alone; therefore, they do not need hard drives to function properly. A hard drive allows you to store the information from your original CD or DVD on the duplicators.

TCE Company, Inc CD duplicators come standard with a 80 GB hard drive and the DVD duplicators a 160 GB hard drive, which are upgradeable.

Ratio

The ratio of a duplicator is the number of burners in relation to the master drive. TCE Company, Inc sells duplicators with a ratio of 1:2 to a 1:11.

Connection to computer

Duplicators are stand-alone therefore; they do not need a computer. However if the duplicator is connected to your computer it is possible to create back up CDs and DVDs. The two connection types are USB 2.0 and a FireWire.

TCE Company, Inc offers both USB 2.0 and FireWire as optional connections to your computer.

Brand

Most duplicators will have brand name burners and master drives in them. Some of the duplicators will have brand name burners and off name master drives, so if continuity is important to you make sure you ask the question. If there is a certain brand you are comfortable with, choose that brand. Some of the top of the line brand are Plextor and Teac.

TCE Company, Inc uses the same brand for the master drive as well as the burners.

Buffering Rate

Buffering occurs when the master drive begins reading the information prior to writing to the CD or DVD, causing the recording to be smoother. Rates are measured by the amount of information that is read before the writing begins. A common buffering is 8 MB.

Error Rate

Error rate is the failure rate for duplicating a CD or DVD.

Accessories

The two main accessories available are the hard drive and the computer connection cords. Connection cords are either USB 2.0 or FireWire.

TCE Company, Inc includes a 80 GB hard drive with the CD duplicators and a 160 GB hard drive with the DVD duplicators but they can be upgraded for an additional fee.

Color

Duplicators generally come in either black or white. So if the color is important to you make sure you specify which color you would like.
