The use of Counterpath Softphones create a large security hole in the Allworx system, which opens the Allworx system up to Internet fraud.

To set up a softphone or generic SIP handset follow these instructions. For this example we will setup a Counterpath X-Lite SoftPhone to work with the Allworx server. For other generic handsets you will need to see their documentation.

Note: In order for the softphone to register outside the local network you will need the public IP address.If the Allworx server is behind a firewall the proper ports will need to have been mapped/forwarded through the firewall to the Allworx server. see: "How do I setup a remote phone"
On the Allworx Administration page
Complete the changes by clicking on "Update".
In CounterPath X-Lite softphone
Click Softphone --> Account Settings.
Fill in with the value in (5xxx) range
Account name: 5xxx
User ID: 5xxx or *5xxx
Domain: (IP Address of the Allworx Server Public or Private)
Password: 5xxx
Display Name: (What you want displayed when you call out)
Authorization Name: 5xxx
Check "Register with domain and receive calls"
Click "Ok"
The softphone should now register with the Allworx server. Xlite should display "Account enabled phone is ready"

On the Allworx Administration page
- Click on Home --> Phone System --> Handsets.
- Click "Add New SIP Handset"
- Owner: Select an owner or leave {none}
- Extension: Optional. If this phone will recieve calls that are directed to a user's primary extension then leave blank. Also, leave blank if softphone user will only be placing calls. Otherwise, select a system extension to which
- the calls will ring the soft phone.
- Caller ID number: Use owners extension or Select from list
- Caller ID Name: What you want displayed to the called party.
- Model: Select "Generic SIP" from drop down list.
- Number of line: select 1
- Login ID: Specify Value "temp" at this time.
- Password: Also, Specify Value "temp" at this time.
- Click "Add"
- Find newly created handset and click on "Modify"
- Copy the value shown in the user ID field, should be a value in (5xxx) range.
- Specify the value as the login ID & Password. As a result the 3 fields User ID, Login ID, & the password will be the same.
Complete the changes by clicking on "Update".
In CounterPath X-Lite softphone
Click Softphone --> Account Settings.
