How to Update Software on an
​Allworx Server

Before performing an update, be aware that:
  • If you are updating from release 7.0 or lower, significant changes to multi-site networking have been made that require additional feature keys and configuration in order for site-to-site features to continue to operate. Also, if you are trying to update to 7.2, you must first update to release 7.1
  • It is highly recommended that you perform an OfficeSafe backup prior to performing the upgrade.(instructions here)
  • The upgrade will require a reboot of the server when complete.
Update from 7.0 and lower
  • 7.0 and lower must first be updated to 7.1
  • In the Allworx admin click Update under Maintenance
  • Click the option to Download from the web.
  • You will see a pop up that the files have been downloaded.
  • Now click Activate update at the bottom of the page.
  • The Allworx will automatically reboot when the update is complete.
  • This is a large update. Give the Allworx at least 5 min to reboot.
  • You should now be able to access the Allworx admin


There are 2 ways to update the Allworx Server Software after 7.1, both require a software maintenance feature key that is current and not expired.

Update via internet

1. Login to the Allworx administration page
2. Navigate to "Maintenance" --> "Update"
3. Click on Option 1: Download from web
4. Choose update you would like to download
5. click Download Update
6. After the download has finished Click "Activate Update Now" or "Activate Update Later"

Note: Update Now, will cause the server activate and reboot. Activate Update Later will cause the server ask you to specify a time to perform activation and reboot 

Update via Manual upload

1. Save and unzip the update file  
1. Login to the Allworx administration page
2. Navigate to "Maintenance" --> "Update"
3. Click Option 2: Upload from PC
4. Click on "Choose File" and browse to the update you saved and unzipped
5. Click "Load"
6. After the download has finished Click "Activate Update Now" or "Activate Update Later"

Note: Update Now, will cause the server activate and reboot. Activate Update Later will cause the server ask you to specify a time to perform activation and reboot 

Once the Allworx has been updated, you must reboot the IP phones. Press yes to "load new software" on the phones.
